Free Budget Tracker

Log your real income, expenses, and savings, and watch the trend build month over month. No sign-up, no email, no server — everything stays in this browser.

Why No Account?

Every budgeting app that asks for an email address or a login is a budgeting app that stores your financial habits on someone else's server. The Budget Tracker takes the opposite approach: your transactions are written to your browser's local storage and never transmitted anywhere. There's no backend to breach, no account to hack, and no data set to sell — because none exists outside your own device.

The trade-off is real and worth knowing upfront: your data doesn't sync across devices, and clearing your browser's site data erases it. That's why Export CSV exists — a plain spreadsheet file you control, that works as a backup or a way to move your history into a different browser.

How This Differs From the Budget Calculator

The 50/30/20 Budget Calculator answers "if my income and expenses looked like this, would I be on target?" — a single-month projection you type in by hand. The Budget Tracker answers a different question: "what actually happened this month, and the month before that?" It's built for logging real transactions as they happen, not modeling hypotheticals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to create an account to use the Budget Tracker?
No. There's no sign-up, no email, and no password. Everything you log is saved directly in your browser's local storage — the same technology that remembers your dark mode preference. Nothing is sent to a server, because there is no server for your data.
Where is my data actually stored?
In your browser's localStorage, scoped to getfincalc.com. It lives only on the device and browser you used to enter it — it does not sync across devices, and we never see it, store it, or have any way to access it.
What happens if I clear my browser data or switch devices?
Your transactions will be lost, since there's no account or server copy to restore from. Use the Export CSV button regularly to keep a backup file, and Import CSV to bring your data into a different browser or device.
Does my balance carry over from one month to the next?
Yes. Whatever you don't spend or move into a savings category at the end of a month automatically becomes your starting balance for the next month — the same way a real checking account works. The balance card at the top of the tracker shows exactly how that number was built: starting balance, plus this month's activity, equals where you end up.
Is this the same as the 50/30/20 Budget Calculator?
No. The Budget Calculator models a single month based on numbers you type in — useful for planning. The Budget Tracker logs your actual transactions over time so you can see real income, expenses, and savings trends, month over month.
Can I export my data or move it elsewhere?
Yes. Export CSV downloads every transaction you've logged as a standard CSV file, readable in Excel, Google Sheets, or any spreadsheet tool. You own the file — use it as a backup or move it into another tool entirely.
Is the Budget Tracker really free, with no ads inside my data?
Yes, completely free with no limits on transactions. We don't run ads inside the tracker itself — mixing ads with your financial data would undermine the exact privacy promise this tool is built around.
How does the Recurring Expenses detector work?
It looks at the expenses you've already logged and groups them by category and amount. Any group that shows up in two or more different months — the same category and roughly the same amount — appears in the Recurring Expenses card automatically, with an estimated annual cost. There's nothing extra to enter: it's built entirely from your normal transaction log, so it also flags a subscription that stops appearing (marked 'not billed last month') in case you forgot to cancel something you're no longer using.
